CLUB HISTORY
HISTORY (01/08/08)

Lumley F.C. was formed in July 1991 by Ritchie Tiffin and was originally known as Lumley Moor Snooker Club. The teams 1st friendly was against Pelton Fleece and the current secretary/manager Gary Brown played in goal. The team joined The Stanley & District Sunday League and Neil Burton became Club Secretary/Manager. Although people were enjoying the games, it was over a month before the first win. That win was courtesy of a penalty shoot-out, two penalty saves from David (Budgie) Hunter gave Steven (Oggy) Overton the opportunity to clinch victory, which he did.

Although Neil Burton remained as Secretary there were different managers including Tony Thompson, Gary Bell (who led the team to a league and cup double) and Micky Hall. Before Gary Brown took charge assisted by Paul Bainbridge in 1995.

During that time Lumley Snooker made the change to The Durham & District Sunday League and the first season brought success, winning Division 6 and The Presidents Trophy. The team were promoted though the leagues over the years. In August 2003 the name was changed to Lumley FC and The Old England became the teams base. In May 2004 Lumley FC were runners-up in The Stafferi Cup and in 2005 Lumley FC secured promotion from Division 1 to The Premier League.

In Febuary 2005 Lumley FC achieved Charter Standard Status from The Football Association. In June 2005 Lumley FC hosted trials with the aim of entering teams at under 8’s and under 7’s age groups, hosted by Academy Director Dean Smith and other qualified coaches Chris Jackson, Damon Robson, Carl Kalugarama, Paul Bainbridge and Gary Brown. Lumley FC have recruited an under 10’s team from Chester Athletic, the team is coached by Gary Scanlin and Chris Jackson.
